We've heard a lot about the uber-amazing designers and fabulous gifts stocked at TenOverSix, the Cali-curated wonderland/boutique at the Joule. Now say hello to the store's manager, Amanda Reed, who's just as effortlessly cool as her must-have merchandise.
What is your background in fashion?
After college, I worked at Nordstrom and managed the couture department in the end, selling the best, from Christopher Kane and Vionnet.
Are you a Dallas native?
I've lived in Texas all my life and have been in Dallas since 2001.
How did you learn about TenOverSix? Did they approach you, or did you apply for the job?
I had a prior customer-turned-friend that was involved with the Joule hotel's expansion, and once TenOverSix was scouted, she mentioned the name. I was dumbfounded that they were really coming to Dallas. She dropped a line, we met a few times and the rest is history.
How would you describe your style? And how does it mesh with TOS's look/vibe?
My style has always been comprised of statement jackets, some girly element in between balanced out with an edgy or interesting shoe of some sort. TOS embodies that cool California girl that doesn't have to try too hard, and with my easy elements of great footwear and a third piece, I think I fit the bill (minus the Cali bit.) Also the mantra of "uniform dressing"—picking innovative classics that you can wear different ways every day—is something I believe in that the TOS girl knows all about.
What are some items in the store (new or otherwise) you love?
Currently I just picked up this perfect Jesse Kamm trench coat and a very high waist Nomia midi skirt that are in rotation weekly. I'll confess that I've always been a clotheshorse [more than] anything else, but the jewelry and shoes in store have been winning lately. I'm obsessed with the latest Rachel Comey stilt shoes and an Unearthen watch.
Who is your typical customer at TOS?
Since we are connected to the Joule hotel, we get all kinds of great customers from LA, NYC and beyond that really appreciate the "Presents" side of the store and its innovative gifts. The Dallas local knows fashion and loves to dress up, so the owners have done a great job bringing party-perfect cocktail dresses, exclusive shoes and statement jewelry in. The art scene in Dallas has really taken off and we have many customers that appreciate our design aesthetic with lines like Jasmin Shokrian and Apiece Apart being the most popular.
How often does TOS have sales?
TOS does a big blowout end-of-season sale only two times a year. We just went on sale January 7th—up to 60% off Fall!
What are owners Kristen Lee and Brady Cunningham like? Have you met their husbands?
Kristen and Brady are always effortlessly well dressed, have an extreme eye for detail, with a laid-back approach to being passionate about what they do. They are very hands-on and visit Dallas often...with their adorable kids of course. You can spot their husbands, whether it's Joe [Cole, who also owns the store] tasting new foodie projects in Weekend coffee or Jason [Schwartzman, the actor] taking Marlowe to the Dallas Aquarium.
What do you like to do for fun when you're not working?
Work is so fun that it all blends together, but I love grabbing drinks at CBD, hanging out in Oak Cliff or getting nail art at Beauty Bar on Knox/Henderson.
