Detroit upstart Shinola, a maker of wallets, watches and bikes, came together in no small part thanks to a group of ex-Fossil employees. Former workers from the Richardson-based company brought experience and insight to the new business when they helped to launch it in 2011, according to WWD.
As to why the company opted to be headquartered in Detroit, Shinola execs were impressed with the city's historic link to the auto industry. Currently stocked locally at Steven Alan and Nordstrom, Shinola is also eying Dallas for a future stand-alone location.
