It's slim pickens for old-school, non-outlet iterations of Saks Fifth Avenue around these parts. Once with locations at Galleria Dallas and North East Mall in Hurst (wow, we're dating ourselves), the closest Saks stores to North Texas are those in San Antonio (North Star Mall) and Houston (The Galleria). At the latter—did you know?—massive renovations are under way to revamp the current store. According to the Houston Business Journal, plans call for a new, nearly-200,000-square-foot store to be built at the mall, right next door to the current location.

Owner Simon Property Group is converting the existing store on Westheimer Road into a two-level wing that will house an additional 35 luxury retailers as well as future restaurants. Signifying a renaissance at the mall, the paper also reports that Rolex, Tod's, Trina Turk, Vera Bradley and Tourbillion will move into the mall within the next year and a half.
